Matsuyama is the capital city of Ehime Prefecture and the largest city on Shikoku Island. However if it’s compared to big cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, Matsuyama is a very small and cozy local town. The main tourist attractions are Dogo Onsen, one of the three oldest hot spring in Japan, and Matsuyama Castle, one of the Japan’s twelve original castles.
Shikoku Island is well-known for Shikoku Henro, the pilgrimage of 88 Buddhist temples. You can find pilgrims in a white costume walking on a pilgrimage path even today. On tours, we try to go along narrow back roads for walking pilgrims and locals avoiding heavily trafficked big roads.
Let’s relax and enjoy the cozy cozy atmosphere while uncovering the local charms not listed in the guidebook!
