Needless to say, the Shimanami Kaido is one of the most famous and popular cycling courses in Japan. It crosses the beautiful Seto Inland Sea from Onomichi, Hiroshima on Honshu, the mainland of Japan, through six islands to Imabari, Ehime on Shikoku Island. The total distance is about 70 km.
“Riding through all the way from Honshu to Shikoku is too long, but I want to try some…” No problem! This course is just for you!
On this course, you can experience a little part of the Shimanami Kaido cycling. We start pedaling from the Sunrise Itoyama as the starting point of the Shimanami Kaido on the Shikoku side. When you cross the giant suspension bridges, you will feel as if you are flying over the sea. We visit Yoshiumi iki-iki-kan, a roadside rest area on Oshima. The view of the bridge from below is also wonderful. The Yoshiumi iki-iki-kan has some restaurants and shops for shopping souvenir and enjoying fresh seafood and refreshments.
The distance is short, but this is a highly recommended course to experience the charms of the Shimanami Kaido.
